## Regenerative Aesthetics

**PRP for Skin Rejuvenation**

What better way to rejuvenate your skin than to harness your own blood to revive your natural beauty? Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is the latest medical treatment to cross over into the world of aesthetics.

A treatment made famous by Kim Kardashian, PRP therapy, sometimes known as the Vampire Facelift is a natural way of rejuvenating tired looking skin. PRP has been a recognised treatment in sports medicine and orthopaedics and is known to encourage wound healing.

Rippon Medical Services is proud to be successfully treating our patients with their own unique growth factors. These growth factors are used to rejuvenate your skin, by healing damaged or ageing skin.

Expert Masterclass trained Dr Rippon uses the Cellenis PRP system which is safe and effective, versatile, non-allergenic, and offers virtually no downtime or side effects.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is plasma from your own blood which contains concentrated platelets.

### What are platelets?

Platelets are a specialised type of blood cell fragment in your own blood which are reservoirs of natural growth factors. Platelets rupture and release their growth factors when they find themselves out of their normal environment (which is in your blood vessels).

Typically, this occurs when an injury occurs to the body and blood vessels are ruptured. This could be due to an accidental cut or scrape or a bruise. The released growth factors then get to work building new blood vessels and new blood vessels and new tissue. In normal circumstances, growth factors are important in healing and skin regeneration.

- Growth factors stimulate collagen secretion, cell growth and tissue remodelling.
- Growth factors stimulate development of new blood vessels to improve skin nourishment.
- By injecting platelets in a PRP, we harness this new tissue regeneration ability of the growth factors.
- PRP assists in recover from the ageing process and importantly, enhances the results of other rejuvenation treatments.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatments are performed at our Carlisle Clinic by Dr Rippon who uses the U225 gun to perform platelet rich plasma treatments. The U225 is the most sophisticated MESO-INJECTOR on the international market, delivering quick and painless PRP precisely into the area being treated resulting in restoration of skin moisture and glow, and an improvement in skin texture and tone.

Facial rejuvenation is a top priority for many patients, but not all of them are ready or willing to undergo invasive surgery to achieve a more youthful appearance. Fortunately, there are a number of effective treatments available that can provide noticeable results without surgery.

One of the newest treatments involves the use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to correct some of the most common facial aging concerns. PRP is a unique formulation created from the patient’s own blood, which has been specifically processed to increase the concentration of platelets in the plasma.

While its cosmetic applications are relatively new, PRP has a long history of use in orthopedic medicine, reconstructive surgery, and dentistry. It is a popular treatment for joint, tendon, and tissue injuries in professional athletes because it greatly reduces the amount of time the athlete is out of play after an injury.

Also referred to as a treatment with PRP can address a variety of cosmetic concerns in areas of the face that can be difficult to treat with other non-invasive techniques. The most popular uses of PRP include:

- Improving skin texture
- Adding volume to the face, hands, and neck
- Treating fine lines and wrinkles around and below the eyes
- Plumping up under eye grooves
- Minimising wrinkles and lines around the mouth
- Eliminating acne scars and stretch marks

Treatment with PRP can last up to 1hour 30 minutes . When the patient arrives, a small vial of blood is drawn, similar to the volume required for routine blood work. The blood is then spun in a centrifuge to separate the growth factors, platelets, and stem cells from the rest of the blood. Once this unique mixture is obtained, it is injected back into the skin using a U225 Gun.

The U225 gun is based on aeronautical industry technology.

The U225 introduces a robust delivery device resulting in an almost painless treatment. The U225 gun combines needling and cannula into one treatment process. For most patients, the pain is tolerable without the need for numbing cream. The U225 gun revolutionises the way we deliver treatments – faster treatment time and less pain.

To achieve the best results, most of our patients have three treatments, spaced at 4 to 8 week intervals. During the first month, a noticeable improvement in skin texture can be seen. Maximum collagen regeneration occurs around 3 months after the initial treatment, resulting in in plumper, lifted skin with fewer lines and wrinkles.

The results of the treatment are typically maintained for 18 – 24 months. Many patients opt to undergo touch-up treatments after one year to maintain their results.

After undergoing platelet-rich plasma treatments, patients are able to resume normal activities immediately. There are very few side effects associated with PRP treatments because the injected substance is sourced from the patient’s own body, which eliminates the risk of infection or allergic reaction. Some patients experience redness in the treated area for up to 48 hours after the treatment, but this is not painful and can be easily concealed with makeup. Swelling and bruising are uncommon and last less than a week if they do occur. After the treatment, Patients are encouraged to keep the skin well hydrated with their normal moisturizer and to apply sunscreen several times a day to protect the skin and maintain the effects of the treatment.

Platelet-rich plasma treatments are ideal for individuals who are looking for a gradual improvement in their skin’s appearance and seek noticeable, natural looking results. It is appropriate for individuals with mild to moderate signs of aging. Candidates should also be in good overall health and have realistic expectations for the procedure.
