CHOOSING THE RIGHT PRACTITIONER
Having full, plump lips is often considered a sign of good health, beauty and youth. Whether you were born with thin lips or your lips are thinning due to the natural ageing process the thought of treatment may be worrying; that lip fillers would leave us with an infamous 'trout pout' but more and more of us want to undertake subtle enhancements to 'look like themselves on a good day whilst maintaining a youthful appearance'.
When carried out by an experienced, regulated qualified practitioner, lip fillers can create a beautiful look that will enhance the overall shape of your face. Every year, thousands of people undergo successful lip enhancement and are pleased with the results.
The key to lip fillers is using temporary fillers that contain hyaluronic acid (HA). This is a natural substance found in our own skin, it is our own natural moisturiser and is an important substance that makes up the healthy and youthful looking appearance of the skin. Unfortunately hyaluronic acid diminishes over time.
Today, the good new is, the signs of ageing can be reduced by replacing the lost hyaluronic acid to hydrate and plump up the tissue of the skin. Successful lip filler will gently correct loss of volume in the lips keeping them looking hydrated and reducing fine lines around the mouth.
WHEN TO CONSIDER LIP ENHANCEMENT
Your lips have always been thin and disappear when you smile.
As you age, your lips have become thinner and less full.
You feel self-conscious about how your lips look.
Having fuller lips will help balance out your face.
ARE YOU A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR LIP ENHANCEMENT?
Good candidates for lip enhancement want to plump up thin lips or create a fuller look. If you smile and your top lip or both lips disappear, you may benefit from lip augmentation. Some techniques can improve the shape of your mouth and gum-show when you smile. If you are in good general health, have a positive attitude and realistic expectations, you are most likely a good candidate for this procedure.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT PRACTITIONER
Finding the right practitioner requires some research. Where to start? asking around is a good starting point as a referral from somebody you know, trust, and somebody that looks good is a great indicator of how good a practitioner is. If this is not an option or if you want complete peace of mind, check if your practitioner is on an accredited register regulated by the Professional Standards Authority, like Save Face which adds additional layers of credibility, confidence and assurance for both the trained healthcare professionals who are listed on their register as a means to differentiate themselves and the patients who use the register to confidently navigate their way to a safe pair of hands.
Patient need good practitioners. Good practitioners make the care of their patients their first concern: they are competent, keep their knowledge and skills up to date, establish and maintain good relationships with patients and colleagues, are honest and trustworthy, and act with integrity and within the law.

HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT TAKE?
Following your consultation and when you are happy to proceed, the treatment session will typically take about thirty minutes. During the session a premium filler will be selected and injected into the specific area using a fine needle or cannula.
DOES IT HURT?
Dermal fillers containing anaesthetic which helps reduce any sensation of pain is a treatment of choice by reputable practitioners along with local anaesthetic prior to treatment. Examples of reputable and regulated HA Dermal Fillers include JUVEDERM, The BELOTERO Range and TEOSYAL Products.
HOW SOON CAN I RETURN TO NORMAL ACTIVITIES?
There may be swelling or redness after the injections which usually subsides soon after treatment. Sometimes a cold compress is advisable to help prevent swelling in the lip area. Swelling should subside in a day or two.
